  6. One for the Books

    March 8, 2012 by christian

Last Sunday the big kids were so cranky they were ordered to separate rooms for a much needed time out.

They both fell asleep, which was great, I could make dinner in peace.  20 minutes or so later, I went to wake them up.  I wasn’t about to let them sleep for fear of a midnight wake up and feeding.

I went to Chloe first and tried to wake her.  I started off really sweet “Baby, it’s time for dinner” etc. It didn’t work.  I proceeded to shake her and finally she opened her eyes. They were those glassy rolling eyes, uh oh…she was REALLY asleep.  Finally I pulled her up, and she talked for a sec.  Ok, progress. Now for Atticus.  I went into his room, and same thing except I didn’t bother with the sweet part.  I just went in there and started talking, turning on lights taking covers off etc.  I pulled him up to an upright position.  He had the glass eye action too, and was not happy.  Finally I started to shake his shoulders and tell him “It’s dinner time, aren’t you hungry?”  He seemed to snap out of it, and got out of bed.

He started to walk down stairs, and I noticed that Chloe had fallen back to sleep.  I had to go back in to deal with her.  I just started with the shaking, pulling etc.  About this time I hear Ben yelling “ATTICUS, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!”.  He yelled it a couple times, and then I hear Atticus start to cry, the cry when he knows he has done something wrong.  I walk out to see Atticus standing at the top of our landing on the stairs with his pants down.  He was peeing.  Alot. Down 7 stairs and onto the entry way where all of our shoes are kept.  When I say peeing, let me just be honest.  It was the first thing in the morning pee.  The kind that had been saved up all day…gusher.  It was running down the stairs like Niagra falls, swirling, dripping and splashing.  I guess Atticus finally came to when Ben started yelling at him.  By then it was too late, everything in the general vicinity was sprinkled, sprayed or misted..  He was so upset, and you could see him turning to figure out if he would go back up to the bathroom or what.  At this point I was yelling “DONT MOVE! JUST FINISH” I didn’t need that hose going rogue.  So when he was finally done, he ran upstairs so upset.  All he could say was “I didn’t know” over and over again.  Poor guy, I really felt so bad for him.

All I could do was laugh.  I was laughing so hard, and Ben was not appreciating it.  I mean, seriously, so much pee.  For me at least, it brought much needed humor to a day that was otherwise just hard.  This was the icing on the cake, but you couldn’t be mad.  I just had to roll with the punches and put this one as a memory I will never forget.

I love that boy, and his sincerity with a tear stricken face just wanting to make things right again.

  7. Darcy

For the last 4 weeks we have had a break from the horrors of school. No crazy late nights studying. No exhausted weekends trying to cram in family time. No stressing out over the impending doom of finals. No absentee dad…

Unfortunately it all starts back tonight. Only another 865 days to go, not that I am counting.

    On another note:

Somehow life is not crazy enough her at Camp Weber and Christian decided she wanted more. We have added a new puppy to the mix. Darcy is a a 5 month old Miniature Schnauzer. Christian said, “I want a dog I can bring with me, The Moose is not portable.”  Of course the kids love her and Christian is happy with tiny dog around too.

  8. Wow

It has been a while since we updated. Time flies when you are out of control. Since our last update, Chloe has started school, Ivy is walking and talking, and I (Ben) am still plugging away at school. Chloe seems to love kindergarten, but has a hard time selecting clothes to wear. Atticus misses Chloe, but he does get a lot of time with Christian and gets to be in charge around the house. Ivy is walking and talking and beginning to tell Atticus what to do. Christian keeps the house running and the everyone together. That is the quick run down…

Christmas is days away, so that means lots of family time. We are soaking it up right now anticipating the beginning of another semester.

  9. Reflecting

I was thinking about some blogs I read, and the inspiration I gather from them.  BUT every once in awhile, I have to take a break from blog reading.  I tend to just get down on myself because of the lack of talent I have.  I was not given the natural photography skills or the decorating skills.  So when I read blogs of moms with small kids and their projects/houses/ideas are awesome some times I just want to fuhreak out.  I mean is this FOR REAL????

However, this is not really the point of this post.  Really, I decided that there are a ton of things that I do that take talent…it is just not documented appropriately. Mainly because I just get the slim chance to take pics with my phone as my kids go flying past me in some sort of race, or while trying to catch my baby make a break for the stairs (which I actually DID take pictures of to document, but OBVIOUSLY haven’t posted).  However, I will list a couple reasons why I am so very talented:

    1. Last week my entire family (including myself) got a double whammy stomach virus.  What does this have to do with me being awesome?? I did all the laundry.  I know, right! (for those of you who don’t really understand what that means..I stripped all the bed sheets with the spewed organic matter, rinsed them off, then put them in the laundry.  Also, I washed said child who of course was also soaked.  MULTIPLE TIMES!)

    2. I made homemade poptarts because I can’t bring myself to buy the ones at the store that are made from who knows what.

    3. I figured out what would finally motivate my son to stop wearing diapers, hello raise!

    4. Started my girl on chores and she actually did them, goodbye raise!

It’s easy to get down on yourself because you weren’t hit with the creative/decorator/chef gene…but ya know…my kids are healthy and have a mom that works hard to take care of them.  So all in all, I’m doing ok.
